Under the Digital India initiative: Software Technology Park of India

Apart from upgrading Common Service Centres (CSCs) in all districts with 69 additional e-services, Union Minister for Communication and IT Ravi Shankar Prasad and Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Saturday announced that a Software Technology Park of India (STPI) would be set up in Panchkula under the Digital India initiative. Talking about the Digital India initiative, Chief Minister Khattar said that Haryana has became the first state to implement Aadhaar-enabled birth registration in all the districts. From now onwards, the birth certificate of a newborn child will get linked to his/her Aadhaar card, which will enable tracking the child’s immunisation and status of school enrolment. “A state resident database is also being prepared. We found that over 5 lakh students were enrolled both in government and private schools simultaneously to get benefit of government schemes on the one hand, and better education from the private school on the other. Koi hisaab-kitaab nahi tha. (There was no proper record). People who had died, were receiving pension, because the records show that he/she is alive. We want to get rid of these anomalies,” said Khattar. On his first visit to Haryana after being sworn in as the Union Minister, Prasad announced that National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) would be set up in Kurukshetra to provide computer training to youth and a Software Technology Park of India (STPI) would be set up in Panchkula’s existing HSIIDC IT Park in Sector 23. Talking about the need to provide employment to youth in their home state, Prasad said that the government would create as many as 28,000 seats of BPOs in various states, out of which, 1,000 seats in at least 10 call centres would be created in Haryana. “We have held surveys, and 78 companies have come forward for expression of interest. We hope to go ahead with the project at the earliest,” he said. Prasad criticised the Congress government and said that BSNL was turned into a loss-making venture during the Congress rule. “But since last one year, BSNL’s revenue has increased by 4 per cent, and it is generating profit. Its users have increased from 7 lakhs to 15 lakhs, and landline calls have been made free from 9 pm to 7 am,” said Prasad, adding that more number of hot spots would also be created in Haryana. The government also highlighted its plans to set up at least one Common Service Centre in each of the gram panchayats in the state. ‘No complaint yet on rape during Jat stir’ When asked about the alleged rape of women during Jat agitation in Murthal, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said that a special team has been formed and the investigation is on. “The police are doing its duty, but no one has come forward to make any such complaint yet. I urge all people of the state to share information, if they have any, regarding the incident.
