Sony is reportedly working on the successor to its Xperia XZ series, and it may launch another variant to the rumored Xperia Z1. Dubbed as Xperia XZ1 Compact, the smartphone has surfaced in leaked renders based on CAD drawings. The video shows off the smartphone in a 360-degree view ahead of the expected IFA launch on August 31.

According to the video based on tips by OnLeaks, the Xperia XZ1 Compact smartphone looks very similar to the Xperia XZ1 seen in leaked pictures. However, while the Xperia XZ1 shows off curvaceous edges, the purported Xperia XZ1 Compact living up to its name is all about straight, and sharp edges. The flat-designed Xperia XZ1 has a glossy finish on all sides and noticeable bezels around the display. The smartphone appears to feature a metal-unibody design.

On the left side, it has a power button, volume rocker, and shutter key for quick access to the camera. The device has only a SIM tray on the right side. Other features of the smartphone include a front camera above the display, 3.5mm audio jack on the top, and USB Type-C port at the bottom. Looking at the back of the smartphone reveals the primary camera with LED flash, and NFC connectivity will be there on board too. ALSO READ: Sony Xperia XZ Premium Review: A true ‘premium’ flagship smartphone in every sense

Details on Xperia XZ1 and XZ1 Compact remain sketchy as the video does not give any details on the specifications front. From what we know so far, both the smartphones are expected to be powered by Snapdragon 835 SoC. Sony is also likely to fill in the XZ1 series smartphones with the 960fps Slow Motion video recording feature seen on the Xperia XZ Premium. The two will run on Android Nougat 7.1.1 out-of-the-box, while the Xperia XZ1 Compact is expected to have a smaller footprint.
