LG V30 is now receiving a software update on certain Verizon-branded units in the US. The update brings software version VS99620b to the LG V30 with features like the new AI Cam, a new start screen with ThinQ branding, and the “latest Android security updates”. These features were rolled out to the LG V30+ back in March this year.
To check for the LG V30 OTA update, go to Settings > About Phone > Software updates > Check for Update > Download Now. Once the download is over, click on Install Now. Verizon states that users should make sure to connect their handsets to Wi-Fi or a reliable mobile data connection before installing the OTA update. Also, battery should be at a safe level.
As we mentioned, the new software update brings a major new feature called AI Cam to the LG V30. AI Cam claims to analyse subjects in the frame and provides the user with four different filter recommendations based on the lighting and image conditions. These filters combine factors such as contrast, saturation, colour, and scene characteristics. Apart from that, recommendations are also based on these 8 categories — people, pets, food, flowers, city, landscape (sea/sky), sunset or sunrise. The update also brings a change to the boot screen. Instead of LG V30, the start up screen will, after the update, display LG V30 ThinQ as part of the South Korean giant’s massive proprietary AI virtual assistant branding. Lastly, the update also brings the March Android security patch to the Verizon-branded LG V30.
To briefly recap, the LG V30 was launched in August last year with Android 7.1.2 Nougat, but later updated to Android 8.0 Oreo. It sports a 6-inch QHD+ (1440×2880 pixels) OLED FullVision display with HDR10 support. The phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC, coupled with 4GB RAM.
Coming to the cameras, the LG V30 features a dual camera setup on the rear: a 16-megapixel sensor with an f/1.6 aperture, a 71-degree wide-angle lens, and LED flash, and a 13-megapixel sensor with an aperture of f/1.9 and a 120-degree wide-angle lens. The smartphone has a 5-megapixel front sensor for selfies and video calling. The inbuilt storage on the LG V30 is 64GB expandable via microSD card (up to 2TB). Powering the internals is a 3300mAh non removable battery.
