Sometimes standard golf cart shocks just will not do. There are times when a more heavy-duty set of springs is either needed or desired. Fortunately, the process of installing them yourself is not too difficult. Here are step-by-step instructions on how to install heavy-duty springs on your shocks with the Yamaha Heavy-Duty Rear Spring Kit.
1. First, you will need to jack the cart up in the rear and place the frame on jack stands. Make sure there is a car jack under the rear housing of the cart.
2. Remove the rear shocks from your golf cart. Make sure to save the nuts and the bolts for when you need to reinstall the rear shocks.
3. Remove the top spring retainer from the shock. To do this, either use a bench grinder to cut the stock spring off the shock or use a vice grip to hold the shock in place, use a screwdriver to compress the spring, and slide the retainer out while gripping it with pliers.
4. Once the retainer has been completely removed, you may dispose of the stock spring.
5. Make sure that the shock is in a fully-extended position. Once it is, proceed to slide the heavy-duty spring onto the shock and place the retainer back onto the new spring.
6. Ensure that the spring is sitting as tight as possible against the retainer and pull the two-piece collar from the kit. This will fill the remaining space between the spring and the bottom of the shock.
7. Repeat all of the previous steps for the second shock.
8. Re-install the shocks onto your golf cart.
