Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) plans to upgrade technology in the new fiscal to provide a host of value-added services to its customers in Prakasam district, according to BSNL General Manager B. Chandrasena.
Next generation network (NGN), a verstile platform for broadband, landline and mobile services, will be in place in a couple of months, “Using NGN, customers can shift fixed mobile wireless phone numbers to any place in the country,” she told a press conference in Ongole on Thursday. BSNL, in association with Quad Gen, would roll out shortly 5G Wi-Fi hotspots at the busy Church Centre, the bus station, the Railway station and select colleges in the district, she said.

for landline users
BSNL would also introduce soon video calling facility for landline users to chat with their kith and kin within the country and abroad, she said, adding that the cost of the equipment would be about Rs. 20,000 per piece.
She announced waiver of installation charges for customers, whose broadband connections were disconnected till December 2015 and 500 on-net free calls per month in addition to already available free calls. The offer will be valid till March 31. Under cash back scheme, new broadband customers could go for Wi-Fi modem at a cost of Rs. 1,500. The cash back amount would be adjusted in the bill at the rate of Rs. 100 per month.
She also announced waiver of installation charges for new landline connections and extension of income facility to customers whose connections had been disconnected. They could enjoy free calling facility between 9.00 p.m. and 7.00 a.m.
