OnePlus 3T vs OnePlus 3: What’s New and Different
HIGHLIGHTS
OnePlus 3T will go on sale later this month
It has been priced at a starting price of $439 (roughly Rs. 29,800)
OnePlus 3T comes with a lot of improvements over OnePlus 3
Chinese handset maker OnePlus on Tuesday, as promised, unveiled a new upgraded OnePlus 3T smartphone. While the new OnePlus 3T looks identical to the original OnePlus 3 though there are plenty of upgrades under the hood. The new variant packs an all-new Snapdrprocessor SoC, a bumped front-facing camera, a new 128GB storage model, and even a new colour variant.

The OnePlus 3T smartphone despite featuring upgrades has been given a modest price hike. It will go on sale starting November 22 in the US and November 28 in UK. Unfortunately, the Chinese company as of now has not revealed whether the OnePlus 3T will be launched in India anytime soon. In this post, we will see the major differences between the new OnePlus 3T and OnePlus 3 depending on which you can take a call to either wait for the upgraded version or go with the original model.

Processor
One of the biggest differences between the OnePlus 3T and OnePlus 3 (Review) is in terms of processor. To recall, the OnePlus 3 came powered with quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC coupled with Adreno 530 GPU and 6GB of RAM. The all-new OnePlus 3T packs the upgraded quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 SoC coupled with Adreno 530 and 6GB of RAM. To be specific, the new Snapdragon 821 SoC on the OnePlus 3T comes with two cores clocked at 1.6GHz and two cores clocked at 2.35GHz.
Storage
One of the biggest qualms with the original OnePlus 3 was the limited 64GB inbuilt storage, which is non-expandable. It seems the company has definitely acknowledged user complaints and has introduced an larger 128GB storage model. The OnePlus 3T comes in both 64GB and 128GB storage models, compared to just a 64GB model on the OnePlus 3.

Camera
While the OnePlus 3T packs the same 16-megapixel rear camera featuring Sony IMX298 sensor, PDAF (phase detection autofocus), and 4K video recording as seen on the OnePlus 3, the Chinese company has bumped up the front camera on the 3T. It ships with 16-megapixel front camera with a Samsung 3P8SP sensor. Additionally, the front camera on the OnePlus 3T will support PDAF instead of just a fixed focus configuration.
Battery
The OnePlus 3T will also ship with a larger 3400mAh battery compared to the 3000mAh battery seen on the OnePlus 3. With the bumped up battery size, the OnePlus 3T looks to take on the likes of other premium handsets including Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge with 3600mAh and Google Pixel XL with 3450mAh. The OnePlus 3T will again support Dash Charge (5V 4A) fast charging technology.

Considering that the OnePlus 3 is just merely five months old in the market and it has already received an upgrade in the form of OnePlus 3T, it will be interesting to see how the company sells both the phones in various markets.

Coming to pricing, OnePlus 3T 64GB will be available at $439 (roughly Rs. 29,800), while the 128GB model will come at $479 (roughly Rs. 32,500). To recall, the OnePlus 3 was launched at $399 for the 64GB model.

OnePlus 3T will be also available in Soft Gold and all-new Gunmetal colour variants.

The Chinese company at the Tuesday event also confirmed plans to release a new OxygenOS build based on Android 7.0 Nougat for both the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T by the end of this year. Apart from the above listed differences, OnePlus 3T and OnePlus 3 sport an identical anodised aluminium metal unibody design. The OnePlus 3T features fingerprint sensor on the home button and packs USB 2.0 Type-C port, as well as 3.5mm audio jack.
