Tata Group to give Rs54.3 crore to Royal Society

New Delhi: Tata Group companies will give £5.6 million (approximately Rs.54.3 crore) to the Royal Society, the UK’s top academy of science, the company and the academy announced Wednesday.

The funding will establish nine new Tata University Research Fellows in the Physical Sciences and Engineering over the next decade, with the first Royal Society Tata University Research Fellows to be appointed in October 2016.

“The Royal Society’s prestigious University Research Fellowships scheme, which supports exceptional young scientists, is to receive a £5.6 million boost thanks to generous funding from a group of Tata companies, including Tata Sons, Jaguar Land Rover and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS),” said the Royal Society, headed by Indian origin Nobel laureate Venki Ramakrishnan.
