New Facebook Events App Could Also Be Helpful for Marketing, Appointments

Facebook (NASDAQ:FB) recently launched an all new app that’s solely dedicated to events. The standalone app, creatively named ‘Events from Facebook,’ is designed for events seekers — and business people in a way.

The app is available in iOS for U.S. users and will soon be available on Android too. Facebook’s core app still offers its Events feature, so you won’t be forced to switch like with Messenger.

What Can You Do with the New Facebook Events App?

Using the app, you can now see what your friends are interested in, what’s happening nearby as well as events being planned by Pages you like.

Facebook Events also allows you to browse events based on your personal interests or location. To prevent double booking, the app has a calendar feature and you can also add other calendars from Apple’s iCloud and Google. All this should give you a better look at your day in a glance.

Launched in 2005, Events is one of Facebook’s oldest features. “Every day, more than 100 million people use Facebook events to discover things they can do with their friends — from festivals and 5Ks to neighborhood fairs and nightlife,” said Facebook’s product manager Aditya Koolwal when introducing Events.

The actions you take on Events are also visible on Facebook. This makes it extremely easy for your friends and followers to see planned events or what you’re interested in even if they don’t have the app.

Consequently, besides connecting with friends, businesses can potentially use this platform to promote events or even set up appointments. But also, the fact that you can view all your events in one place makes it easy to plan and schedule business appointments.

Over the years, the social media giant has taken many of its popular features and turned them into standalone apps, including Messenger and Groups.

Last year, they shut down a couple of standalone apps, including Riff, Slingshow and Riff. But for now, Events may have great potential to help you market and manage your schedule.
